Blog Assignment #1

About Me

My name is Jamie Ham. I am a senior in the Health Education program. I live in Leakesville, Mississippi. I commute to South Alabama four days a week this semester. I started at South Alabama in the Fall of 2008 as a nursing major. I completed one semester and decided that nursing school was not for me. I have had a great experience here at South Alabama. I have met a lot of great instructors and made a ton of new friends.

My father is a superintendent of a construction company here in Mobile. My mother is a full time care-giver to my grandmother. I also have an older sister. She is a high school teacher. When I am not in school, I spend my time as an assistant softball coach at the high school that I graduated from, Greene County High School. I enjoy drag racing with my father and playing the guitar as my hobbies. I am a very organized person. I love for things to be in order. I am a person that completes something that I start. I am looking forward to a great semester!

Randy Pausch on Time Management

Time Management is a big issue in the world today. One thing I learned from Dr. Pausch's video is the way he analyzed goals, priorities and plans. I have never thought about it like this before. Why am I doing this? This question makes you think about things. Am I just doing things right, or am I doing the right things? Another thing I learned is to continuously plan. What I mean is not only planning month by month or week by week but to plan day by day and hour by hour. Breaking things into smaller steps will lead to better success.

Time Management from Penn State

I found many ideas from these websites that would be helpful to me. First, I would use a daily planner to schedule each day. The list of tips to manage time is very helpful. One of the tips that stuck out to me was "learning to say no". I struggle in this area. I try to do so many things to help other people, and it leaves me with no time to successfully complete the things I need to do. Another idea was that of setting priorities. Setting priorities include responsibility, efficient planning, and goal setting.

  1. Hey, Mr. Ham! Your blog met all the requirements set by Dr. Strange. You even went above and beyond the class by adding a picture and background before we were even taught how! Great Job :) I thoroughly enjoyed reading your first blog!
